When I'm not mucking around in the Bad Glinda Soap Studio, mixing, sniffing, and handcrafting all our products or teaching literature, writing, or yoga, I can be found in the kitchen churning my own butter, whipping up batches of homemade granola, or ladling out mugs of steaming bone broth. I would milk my own cow if I could fit one in my tiny suburban backyard. I am also obsessed with cookbooks. I lost count at 100. I have a girl crush on Danielle Walker, cookbook author and food blogger at Against All Grain and wrote my dissertation, in part, on Nigella Lawson's Nigella Bites.
Miles Davis is hardwired into my soul, but Joe Strummer will always have my heart. My dance jam is “Into the Groove” by Madonna, which you can hear at volume 10 while I clean the house. And after jamming out to 80s club music, I binge watch The Great British Baking Show, The Big Bang Theory, and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.
If you are looking for ease and elegance, you are looking in the wrong place. You will not find here tips to save time or tools to be perfect. Hell, I feel like a rock star when I finally get my laundry folded, which is regularly heaped in a basket on my dining room table. And I sometimes eat buttered popcorn in front of the TV for dinner.
I swear. A lot. I often do things the hard way and I make a lot of mistakes. From these, I have learned the key to happiness: if someone asks you to do something and the answer isn't "Hell Yes!" then the answer is NO.
I earned a PhD from the University of Central Florida where I studied the intersections of technology, rhetoric, and feminine authority. I authored an innovative dissertation on embodied wisdom before studying holistic health and wellness at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and mindfulness with Mindful Schools. I have been practicing yoga since 1999 and teaching yoga since 2005. I am Professor of Composition and Literature in the School of Humanities & Communication at Daytona State College. I am a teacher, nurturer, and voracious student of life. I believe in embracing new opportunities and new ideas. I am also the first to admit that I tend to be an extremist in my pursuits, indulging my curiosity with deep dives into every facet of my ventures. I also love sharing my knowledge and passions with the world. Whether it's as a soap and cosmetic maker, literature professor, holistic health coach, yoga and meditation instructor, or former talk radio host, I am the go-to for bad ass wellness resources. Heather is such a wonderful human being. She is world peace and home cooked meals and camping trips and everything else I can think of that I love about the world . . . feeling happy.
Heather helped me realize what I really want. John B.
